| Female Mentoring Program Continues |
Linda Spalla Featured as Guest Speaker Spalla, the former president of WHNT TV Channel 19, spoke about her recently published book, Leading Ladies, 30 Tips for Dynamic Female Leaders. The author gave an overview of her book (now available at Barnes and Noble and Amazon.com) and discussed many pertinent topics, primarily involving women in the work place. Spalla addressed issues such as learning to be all that you can be, how to build a successful career, and questions to ask yourself when making career choices (i.e., “What are you qualified/suited to do?” “What are you afraid of?” “What makes your heart sing?” and “What price are you willing to pay?”). One attendee said of the author, “Spalla is a wonderful speaker who makes a lot of sense. I walked out of the meeting feeling very refreshed and encouraged.” The Female Mentoring Program was originated by Jan Hess about a year ago and serves to assist women in the workplace by providing career guidance, issue-resolution techniques, life-balancing lessons, and a confidence-building environment. “Early in my career, I was fortunate to have a mentor who happened to be one of my older sisters. Understanding the value of having a mentor, I made a commitment to myself early on that I would mentor other women as I progressed in my career,” Hess said regarding her reasons for initiating the program. “For many years, I have informally mentored women. Jim Link is very supportive of this effort and suggested that I start a mentoring program at TBE,” Hess concluded. Meetings are held approximately once a month, and everyone
is invited (yes, even men!). If you are interested in attending
